BROOKS WINS MINI-STOCK FEATURE Desk-Sports Story-FCS Race Report #13 Author-Flipper Callaway—Calvin Brooks was the surprise winner Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway. Brooks won the 35-lap Mini Stock feature, which was shortened to 17-laps, when the top two drivers were “parked” for rough driving. Rocky Mount driver’s Tim Hogan and Terry Mitchell were in a heated battle, that saw Hogan carry Mitchell to the outside wall, on two restarts and Mitchell retaliate, by spinning Hogan in turn three. Speedway officials had enough, giving Brooks his first win of the season. “It was kind of surprising to win like that.” Brooks said. “I saw what was going on up front and tried to stay back and be save.” The Bassett driver added. Hogan finished second and Mitchell was third on an unusual night, which the rest of the field was already out of the race due to crashes and engine failures. Daniel Hudson of Penhook won both 25-lap U-Car races. Todd Arrington of Wirtz, was second in the first race. Eddie Scott of Rocky Mount finished second, in the second race. Other Winners: Bryson Nester-Rookie U-Car, Ethan Brown-Pure Stock, Richard Brown-Any Car, David Harman-Drag and Spectator. Racing returns this weekend for the Professional Security July 4th Celebration. Friday will feature a 50-lap Late Model race. Saturday features a 100-lap Super Cup race. Free Fireworks and Double Points both nights.
